I just bought a 77 F150 with a factory 351M and 4 speed. The guy who had it before me repaced the water pump and only hooked up one of the heater core hoses and put a spark plug in the end of the other one. There are several plugs (top of intake and top of block), but they are pluged up with screws and stuff. One is hooked up to the top of the water pump, and I cant figure out where the other one goes. I think the top of the intake manifold is where this hose goes, but I am not sure. Does anybody know? I cannot find the answer in Chiltons.
p.s. The plug by the water pump in the top of the block has a wire attached to it (temp. sensor?)
It sounds like he had a leaking heater core
and was by-passing it.
look at where the heater core hoses are(back firewall)
and see if they are there.
This may give you an idea as to where they belong.
Hope this helps you some.
(can't really tell without looking at it).
Thanks for the response guys. Yes, the guy was trying to by-pass a leaking heater core, but he failed to stop the flow to the core, so in essence, he compounded the problem. Yea, there should be a 5/8" nipple hose bib somewhere for the return, but the guy has all kinds of screws and other stuff in those places. The opening on the top of the block has a filler plug with a wire attached to it, so I will check to the left of the distrib.
Thanks again.
