AC smell
I have an '05 with 10,000 miles on it. Recently (last few thousand miles) when I turn on the a/c, I get a bad musty or mildew smell. It lasts for maybe a minute or two then goes away. It happens every time I turn it on, whether it is in fresh or recirc. Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

Same thing happens in my Focus as well. I believe I read if you turn the A/C off (just make it come out the vents) for a couple minutes before turning off the vehicle it helps. Try it out.

In a previous life, wherein I haunted Dakota/Durango forums, I saw a ton of threads regarding this same issue.
I chose to do as Beast12 stated, shut off the A/C the last couple of minutes before parking & just run it on vent. Cycling the warmer air through the system seems to help dry up any condensation/moisture that would collect & prevent it from spawning its own little colonies of life.
There were also some debates on the merits of spraying Lysol (or similar product) into the vent intake area in front of the windshield periodically.
