well this will be the 10th problem i have had. the 2004 6.0 loses power the longer u use it. shut it off for the night and its fine in the morning and then loses power through the day. do u guys have any ideas? i would think if it was an injector pump it would do it all the time
the 6.0 always has been prone to fuel related problems. believe it or not, your problems will be cut in half by only using an additive that boosts the cetane level. dont go over the recommended amount of usage.as for your problem, are you losing power immediately or over a long period?

when was your last oil change? i have noticed that rotella has been causing a lot of driveability problems . the 6.0 uses injectors that operate with high pressure engine oil. after so many miles, the oil loses hydraulic capability. high pressure oil is what pushes the piston in the injector to inject fuel into the cylinder
i think you have an electronic problem. the 03 and 04 models have been known to have wiring issues. there is recalls on the injector harness (the ficm is also included on that harness) I cant believe your dealership cant find your problem. The only way that the problem would be hidden is if you have a controller. When you remove it for servicing, all problem codes will be erased.
I had this problem about 10 visits to the shop, ago. It's probably your EGT, etc. Also.. Check the plug harnesses on your computer (driver's side battery) under the plastic cover. The plug all the way to the right was/is popping out half, quarter, fraction the way and causing all kinds of problems, like this.
I noticed the black smoke/power problem was greatly reduced after the e15 recall fix. Still does the power thing, but it's very limited and no black smoke.
Good luck.
