well i finally got the 352 to run. it was a long hard effort with little cash. i did the entire thing for 240.00. i ended up using a set of C8 heads i had in the attic. it pulls a nice steady 20 in of vacuum and has 75 psi oil pressure at start up with 5w30. i have not driven it yet because i still need to install the rear driveshaft and the trans cooler. i had some unique noises on start up sounded like a rod about to blow it turn out it was pinging. so i went and got some 89 octane and the noise is gone. i set the timing to 12 BTDC where it seems to run best.
so far it took 1.5 gallons during the cam break in. might have single digit mileage LOL. now i have all the little things to do before i can drive it hood, core support,a/c,shifter,driveshaft and soem misc interior stuff.
Yup, my neighbors love me.....Even through the magnaflow mufflers, they all know when I'm warming up the project. One has offered to help install fuel injection so I don't have to go through the startup ritual :-)

1 set fast idle
2 pump 3 times
3 crank
4 rev and try to keep it going
5 it dies
6 repeat 4 and 5
Now, imagine how it would be if you didn't have the fast idle or choke assembly?
Otherwise, that process sounds really familar :-)
Pump 3 or more times
hit the starter
stab the throttle and try to nail the sweet spot where it runs
hold until neighbors are screaming
now I can usualy drive it, but it's nowhere near warm :-)
Kudos, Gashog.. that $ range makes me want to tear into mine and get her as good as can be for the long haul, but somehow I dont think I'll get that lucky..
i can give you a list of vendors i used if you like. i bought my bearings and rings off ebay and the gaskets from bruce at www.partsdinosaur.com .
the rings for a 352 are 50.00 this was what hurt. normal 390 rings are 23.00 but due to the odd middle ring the 352's cost more. its hastings part 577 . i had to get them direct from hastings. I used king engine bearings 56.00 for R+M and 60.00 for the freeze plugs and gasket kit. 129.00 for parts 26.00 for used valve spring compressor , 20.00 for piston ring compressor , then just the MISC nuts bolts and gaskets.
Good work, Mike.
How many builds/rebuilds is this for you now? 20?
Not bad for a kid still in school. Shoot, by the time I was 18, I barely had done a valve job on the old Windsor in the Torino, let alone a complete rebuild.
Let me know when you get "Mikes garage & FE rebuilding" opened. I'm still looking for a mechanic that knows more about old Fords than I do (which aint much)
