' Ok I have searched threw the forums and am unable to find what I am looking for. First off, my truck is an 84 F150 300 inline six-engine 2wheel drive. The problem is when started the truck idles terribly and will not stay running with out giving it gas. I can drive the truck as long as I keep on the gas but is not easy with a manual. Things that I have done/checked carb fuel-air mix are set to factory spec. There is another adjustment screw on opposite side but not sure, what it is or does. Made sure plug wires were all in the correct spot as far as firing order. Trying to check timing but the only marks I have found so far are on the drivers side timing gear cover, according to this forum they should be on the passenger side so still need to check that. The carb seems to be sucking a lot of air when idling and am getting a clicking sound when I shut the engine off from around the carb.any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Three possibilities...
Check that the carb is tightened down, may be leaking air in.
Spray WD40 where the intake meets the head. It will fill any air leak occuring and run good.
Check that all vacuum hoses are connected.
