Auto Trans Difference

Can someone explain the internal differences between the 4R100 and E4OD units as to which is better . Also,why the name change,if they are useing what appears to be the same housing. thanks

The 4R100 had many parts strengthend to hold to up the torque increase in the 7.3L that started with the '99 models. It is basically the same trans, just stronger than the E4OD.
