460 pull motor?

I am started on building my new pulling motor but I am not sure on what all to get. I already have pistons. I bought speed-pro domed top 60 over pistons. I also already have a stealth intake, demon 850 with mechanical seconds, d3ve heads slightly ported, L&L headers, Holley black fuel pump, . I still need a cam and lifters and some other stuff. I am going with a full roller set-up with about 680 lift and probably 12:1 compression. I need to know if all of this stuff will work good together and what else i need to get. I will be getting a new converter about 4000 stall. Let me know what else please. Any ideas also. Thanks a lot. I have 4.88 gears and np205 with a c6.

Ok I think the stealth intake is a little mild for that setup first off, I would suggest a victor if your running a solid roller, and 4000rpm stall your getting pretty much over half way through the power range of that intake before you start.
I am assuming your running 460 cid and not a stroker. Lift doesnt' tell us the entire story with the cam, how about some duration, and LSA numbers or are you looking for those numbers from us.
The holley black pump is plenty for most hot street engines but your going to be pulling hard for 30-40 seconds in a pull rig and with a 850 cfm carb and roller engine your gonna go through a lot of fuel in a hurry, you might want to upgrade the fuel system, run a mallory, BG, or aeromotive pump with a bypass regulator, and a min of 1/2" fuel lines, the last thing you want to do is starve the engine of fuel.
I also would do some serious port work on the heads you want all the flow you can get, and you don't say it but your going to want some good quality valves with a roller cam I would suggest Ferrera 6000 series minimum, the right springs for the cam and a set of titanium retianers, and you want to run 2.19/1.71 dia valves and after they are cut in then bowl blend the heads for a nice smooth transition.

duration is 306 i/e and at 050 it is 270 i/e valve lift is 692 i/e rpm range 3800-7200
I am not sure if this is a cam I should use or not. I am not in the unlimited class, I am in th altered stock class. Maybe i should get a milder cam about 650 lift. I also do not know if I should go with a 4000 stall. Should I go less. I am looking for ideas. Thanks

ok your running the comp cam mud race/puller cam #306ar-8 part number 34-720-9. Personally that is not a good cam for a 460, you need something with a split duration and having more duration on the exhaust side. The next step down comp puller cam would actually be a much better cam for you with .050 duration of 252/260 and .726 lift if you want to stay in that series of cams. or probably a better cam yet would be the XR292R, solid roller 292/298 adv duration, 254/260 @ .050 with the lift of .671/.678 rpm range of 3200-7200.
Another option would be a custom ground cam, if you have head flow numbers I could set on up for you that you could then order if you wanted to do that, but without head flow numbers it would just be a guesstamate.
as for the stall convertor you need to know exactly what cam your going to run before deciding on that.

I had read somewhere else that 460's prefer more lift on the exhaust side. I guess that seems like a good choice. Ok say I go with that cam(XR292R). What stall would I want for that and would my Stealth intake be ok for that. I guess I am just trying not to replace a bunch of parts i just bought last year. I want as much power as I can get without changing all that I have. I will get some more porting done for sure. right now all I have is the exhaust side. anymore help is great. Thanks again

hello powergod i run a 60 over 460 in my pro stock pulling truck monster is right i would also sugest a set of c8ve heads or c9ve or dove heads tour d3ve heads have around 96 cc chambers not good for compresson also they are a pollution head the c8 or dove heads have around 74 cc chambers that will give ya a good bost in compression and better flow also look into bigger vales 2.245 on the intake and 1.725 on the exhaust the will give ya a cobra jet size and should help out on the flow also a good cheap cam i run and i know of a few others running it it is a doug herbert billet roller part number chh6k 2500-6800 it is cheap and seems to work good but maybe custom gind would be better but with my set up and i am only running flat tops withj d3ve heads stock valve sizes i can hit 7000 rpm and still have a bit of pettle left also i wouldnt worry about the eletric fuel pump i run a carter manual race pump and it keeps up fine it pumps 110 gph at around 6 psi and i was running 3/8 fuel line than i switch to 1/2 inch and no differnt the 3/8 was fine as afr as the 4000 stall that should work good i run a manual but i know of a few auto's running and for a hot stock typ truck 400 should work good

I have D3VE heads also. I am going to have them milled for better compression. With that about cam that I mentioned would I need bigger valves also? Is 1 3/4" primary headers big enough? Would it be better with a lower stall like 3500 rpm's?
