Good Glasspacks

Alright fellas I was runnin nothin but the neighbors petitioned to kick me out of the neighborhood if I didnt quiet it donw. I ran down to autozone and picked up a pair of 18 inch cherry bombs and i have to tell ya these things are crap. They dont rumble, pop, sputter nothing. Me and every one I know , except the neighbors of coarse, thinks they sound like crap. I want something that sound good and rumbles but isnt too loud, glasspacks. Im lookin at some purple hornies http://www.streetrodstuff.com/products/1158 part number FLT50225, anybody run purple hornies, how are they, everyones input is appreciated

how long have you been running them? If not long give them time to burn out they will get lounder and probably start to pop a bit. If your running a standard you can "help" them out a bit..hehe but becarefull not to blow them up.

get them nice and hot and then spray some nice cold water in there, it cracks the packing and they get louder.

I've heard of that trick too.

I gotta say though, I would probably move out of the neighborhood first before I would make my truck run quieter

Summit has Thrush glass-packs...dual 45",2 1/2" in,thru and out, mated up to Sanderson headers behind my 390.They have a deep note to them that rattles windows and sets off alarms, every body knows my truck without seeing it.My wife say's she hears my truck blocks away when I jump on it.Yet,I've never had a complaint.

Doesnt pop and sputter...sounds good to me. You do realise that all that popping and sputtering will end up annoying the neighbors just as much as a loud obnoxious exhaust will, right? Loud does not = powerful or cool.

But since you asked, what sounds good? A mellow, smooth tone that turns heads rather than making people wonder when was the last time you tuned up the engine or how long ago your muffler fell off.

*sigh* I must be getting old... Wait, even when I was 18 my trucks exhaust got compliments, not warnings.

Purple Hornies will work and be louder then the Cherrybombs BUT, they will annoy the neighbours. Try Thrush glasspacks somwhere near the 36" mark, at least with those you have a true 2.5" core, they will still be fairly quiet but deep toned. Or because both are cheap enough, buy both and try both sets, see what you like better.

Why not just go to some 12" glasspacks since the 18" ones are too mellow for you. And just drive slow when you get in your neighborhood...

Not meaning to start anything here, but just because YOU like a mellow exhaust doesn't mean everyone does... I can understand the loudness of a straight exhaust making some people mad, but if he is only driving by an area and not just revving it up all the time in one place, then he is not hurting anything at all. Why don't people petition jake brakes on big rigs? They're just driving by, BUT they are LOUDDDDDDDD!!! This post is not about anyones opinion anyhow, he is only asking about glasspacks. 76F160, 12" glasspacks do crackle and pop like you would like, have that and 5X22 tips, and it will sound very good. just my 2 cents

If he has 2.5" pipes then the cherrybombs are most likely a 29.5" overall length and also the have a 2.25" perftube in them, that is what is making them quieter.

LOL, if he was just "driving by", no one would be complaining, now would they? Its no different than people driving by with their bass and rattling trunks in the middle of the night. I dont know about your area, but Jakes have been pretty much illegal in any residential area here for years. But at least a Jake Brake serves a purpose.

Its all about respect for other people.

I'm one of those with bass and loud exhaust, haven't had a complaint yet, as for the jake brake law, never seen a sign that says "No jake braking" here, thats why I like good ole Alabama.

I see signs around here alot lol, "Use of engine brakes in built up areas is strictly prohibited" But as for Bass and exhaust, it can be annoying, I'm amazed my neightbours haven't killed me yet. One of my Ladas uses 2 old Dodge driveshafts for exhaust 4" straight pipes and 2 cyls per pipe, can't get much louder. It does depend on how you drive it but also depends on the people around you, some just like to complain about everything. My minivan's original owners got rid of it because the neighbors complained to them all the time about how ugly it was because the paint was peeling and it burned oil, and that it made the neightborhood look bad. (Somewhat higher end area.) So really, everyone has some points, if its loud don't drive like an idiot, if they still complain, I would personally just say kiss my a#$. Blunt but true.

Yeah, I agree w/ 351M. You have as much right to live there as any of them so they can %!$$ off! Find something about their lawn that "bothers" you, start complaining about their quiet fuel efficient vehicles. Heck, if any of them work 9-5 office jobs yet drive Super Duty's, give em hell about that! Them trying to petition you out of the neighborhood for loud pipes is stupid.
