Difference between injectors?

Just currious about what the AA, AB, AD, AO, ect. means on injectors. Are they interchangable? If so, which codes can be interchanged? Thanks in advance for clearing this up for me.

I beleive AB's are 120cc splitshots and come in early 99's, AD's are 140cc splitshots and come in late 99's-2003, AA's are 95cc singleshots that come in 94-97 psds, AO's i have no idea what those are. The AB's or AD's can be run in your truck w/o any programming changes, make sure if you do change inj out you have to make sure all 8 are the same code. Also you could swap singleshot injectors in, but it requires special programming to make them run right. Alot of people who are after big hp swap the split shots out for singles for various reasons.

Is there any way of knowing which ones I have without pulling the valve covers? I've seen it on the injectors I just don't remember which ones I have.

well, you have a new body style powerstroke right? if your truck has the V8 Powerstroke badge on the front of the fender near the headlight, you have an early 99, which lukecline said were AB's. if your powerstroke badge is on the door below the mirror, then you have a late 99-2003. again luke said they have AD's.

Actually, the truck is a 90 F-350 (the motor is out of a 98 E-350 ambulance). I just like to make things difficult. I don't have the van body anymore, so I can't use body stuffk to tell. I have the dead end fuel rails, electric fuel pump, the new style turbo(I think, round up pipe flange instead of square), but a build date (engine) of feb 98.
Thanks for the reply though.

almost positive that is a early 99. the round turbo inlet connection gives it away. ford didnt build the F series as a model year 98 but they did for the E series?

It looks that way. It is real confusing. I just looked on the FoMoCo DVD I've got and th turbo and fuel system are from a 98.5 Econoline(E-350). Evidently Ford put the obs 7.3(with the fuel return)in the early 98 Econolines and then switched to the dead head rails in 98.5- which is the same as the early 99 in the SD. I think. If anyone could help please chime in here.
Anyway I think I have the AB injectors. I guess I will have to pull the valve covers to see. They gotta come off anyway. Just wanted to know so I can go ahead and order a couple before tearing her apart. I need to try and baby it until I can get the replacements and I don't want to tear into it and then put it back together for a week while waiting on parts.
Thanks again,
Craig
