That's a loaded question. Yes if you are talking about clutches for the same engine/tranny. But, and this is a huge "but", you have to also have the larger pressure plate to accommodate the larger clutch disk, and your flywheel has to be drilled to take the larger pressure plate.

I hope this doesn't come off as harsh or talking down to you. But, you need to help us help you. If you want guesses that may cost you big bucks and cause lots of frustration then just ask questions w/o telling us everything we might need to know about the truck. However, if you want solid answers that you can comfortably make purchase decisions on you'll need to tell us more. For instance, when talking about a clutch the year, the engine, the transmission, and whether it is a 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton truck makes a huge difference. So, you can either tell us that every time you ask a question, or put the info in your signature via the User Control Panel.

So, lacking the specifics, I'll say that usually the 3/4 ton vehicles come with the largest clutch - typically an 11". But, I can check that in the Master Parts Catalog if I knew all the details, although it'll be later today before I can get to it.

In my opinion, the best thing to do is take it apart and look because, after ~30 years, there's no telling what may be in there right now.

BTW I don't display any sigs at all (some of them take up WAY too much real estate IMO) and, besides that, it has always been good netiquette to provide all pertinent information in the body of the post when asking questions and looking for help on any Internet forum. Make it as easy as possible for somebody to help you....

My son has a 1984 F150 with 4.9L and 4 speed manual O.D. transmission. I own the same except it is a 1986. Both came standard with 10". When time for clutch replacement came, both were upgraded to 11". The flywheels came drilled with both patterns. If I remember correctly, the 11" required larger diameter bolts. The kits [clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing] cost ~$25 more for the 11".

My apologies - I had most of what I needed, although I might need the year. I will look at the catalog tonight to see what came standard in the 250.

But, Chris has a good point about checking. But, since you will probably buy before taking it apart, I would buy from somewhere that takes returns. Like Amazon. Many of the auto parts houses give either store credit or return a portion if you buy something else from them.

I have an '85 with the 351w and NP435. When i built the motor the flywheel in my truck was drilled for both a 10 and 11" clutch, but the bolts for the 11" are bigger. I don't know if that is standard on all trucks of this vintage though.

I don't know where you did your research at, but it was a corrupted file. The NP435 was used until '92 by Ford. This is the 3rd f-150 I've had with one, the other 2 were 86's with the 4.9(wish I would of held on to those!). It is easy to tell the difference when you get under your truck and look. The fairly large "NP" logo stamped into the case gives it away every time!
