I remember that... but it was a daily driver for him, and he was running pinion brakes, right? it had a high coolness factor, but it wasnt very clean at all...
I was compairing the frame between my cousin's stock 95 F-250 4x4 w/ a Powerstroke, and my 94 F-150 4x4 4.9L. The frame on his truck has the front leaf spring mounts on the end of the frame, with out the accordion part of the frame like mine has (this I expected). His rear mount for his front leafs right at the cab mount. My frame has holes there for what looked like leaf spring mounts, but upon further investigation of a 94 F-150 4x2, it is for the radius arms on the 2WD. I was going to do some measurements, but with it being 22*, dark, and 30mph winds, I only got a chance to peek with my maglite. This is turning into a very interesting situation I am faced with. I had already planned on at least partially boxing in the frame, and laddering it as well. I don't plan on changing the engine position, its a truck, not a GT-40, lol. Like I said before, the project is getting done in phases, and each one will take about a year.
i would have stuck with the coils, and they do make 'em for the wgt of diesels!!! matter of fact , i did go with the coils on my dually 4x4 conversion, with a dana-50, and a 4 link, look at my pics.
the axle was cheap! 100$ vs. 1500$, a dana 60 would be nice, but the funds did'nt permit. i installed a trutrack and new gears the TTB works well with the coil spring set up.
i got the idea off the internet , i came across a pic of a ranger that had the same thing done to it. the guy was running it in tough truck contest , beating the -ell out of it and it was surviving! other guys were breaking axles -this guy was breaking ground! literally!!!
interesting setup... but why didn't you just stick with radius arms? i mean the ttb prevents what the 4-link is designed for.
cool setup, and its good to know there are some ppl out there who wanna be different and i like that!
BTW, i know where you can get D60 F/R for $1000
-cutts-
the 4 link gives you a reduced arc of travel than the radius arm. plus it maintains the proper steering geomotry. i can drop my axles another 10" if i wanted to without touching the links, i did it! imagine if it was a solid axle!
