I am working on a new system, and need opinions. For my designs in the past couple years, I've been really, really happy using CDT audio. For my latest build, though, the local dealer is offering to cut me a deal on Diamond, if I buy the majority of my gear from him.
Has anybody here used Diamond? They come in at almost half the cost (Diamond D971 vs CDT 07.4US). I have had great experiences with CDT, and am quite biased, but a savings of a grand leaves that much more money for a better amp/deck/truck parts.
I could only listen to the Diamonds for a few minutes, and they don't seem quite as full bodied, but it's hard to say when they are inside a store test rack.
I figure it's hard to say, because everyone likes what they like, but I thought I would ask, regardless.
I used to install Diamonds all the time for a shop I worked for almost 6 years ago. Thought they sounded pretty good but couldn't believe people would pay that much for them. I couldn't hear the difference between them and the Kicker Resolution components we sold yet people would pay almost twice as much for them. Guess each person has thier tastes. Kind of like the guys that buy F150s and Lincoln LTs. I have never heard the CDT speakers. I have some pics somewhere that I put three sets of the Diamond 6.5s into each door of a guys Expedition. Have a few stacks of install pics that I have misplaced when moving my office to another room.
I will say the Diamonds sound pretty smooth so if they are compared to the CDTs I would say go for it.

Thanks KC. Your right about having to really strain to hear a difference, at first. But I can say, after about two-three months of listening to my CDT's, then getting into my cousin's car with bottom end Alpine's, your ear starts to notice the little details! The higher end speakers really do seem better at reproducing the body of the sound, and not just the sound itself. Then again, it could truly be a...
OK...I've been trying for like 5 minutes, but I can't remember the word. Like when people have effects of something, but they actually took just a sugar pill, and the effects are in your head...whats that word? It starts with a 'p' I think.
Pyro, You seem to be pretty serious about your satisfaction, so if there is a doubt that you will be happy with the Diamonds over the CDTs, then I would insist that the dealer find an install that he has done with the speakers he's trying to sell you. If he can't do that then I suggest sticking with the CDTs. You have to weigh your listening pleasure vs. saving a few bucks.
I agree. It's not too bad if you are unhappy with a set of speakers that you spent maybe a hundred or so on but when you're getting into the $400.00 and up class I would go with your heart. Really hard to get rid of a set of used expensive speakers without loosing alot.
I think I'll talk to him about getting a listen in a similiar setup as what I'd be doing. That way I can know for myself if the sound is on the level. He "claims" there are many of them around, so we'll see.
