Hi everyone, I'm a noob here, so sorry if I'm doing anything wrong. I am helping a lady from church replace her radiator on her '74 f100. I know if a 6cyl but not sure what c.i. or liter it is, and I need to make sure which radiator is the right one before I try to install it and find out I got the wrong one. I took some pic's of the radiator and engine area, and posted them to my gallery. Can anyone tell me what c.i. & liter it is for sure? And/or the right radiator? Sorry I don't have any other info on the truck itself yet. I am trying to get the vin# as I know that would help identify the trim level, ect. I'm not positive on how the gallery thing works, but I think everyone can view it, right? If not let me know what to do so you can, or I can email you the pics if anyone wants to see them and can't otherwise. Thanks for your help.
ok, here's how to tell yourself. Open the driver's side door. you've either got the 240 or the 300. The nameplate on the inside of thedoorjam will have a 11 digit code on the upper left. the fourth character is the engine code. If it's an A then the 240, if it's a B then 300.
By the way, nice air cleaner, and welcome to the boards, hope to see you around.
There was only one 6 cylinder offered in these old pickups - 300 cubic inch (4.9 liter). The radiator shop or parts store will need to know a few things about the pickup.
1974, F100, 300ci 6 cylinder
is it auto?
do trans lines go to the radiator?
a/c?
Might be a good idea to measure the height and width of the finned area, also notice the location of the upper and lower hose attachments. Also take a print out of the pics you took, that will help too.
If you are getting a used one, keep in mind a radiator for a v8 is different than your 6 cylinder one.
hey thanks for the quick reply and the info. I'll check out that nameplate and see what I find. Yeah I liked the air filter to, I was surprised when I opened the hood and saw it there. It came on it when she got the truck.
no problem, thanks for the reply. You gave me some more things to look for before getting the radiator. I'm sure just about everyone on here knows more then I do about Ford Trucks, this is my 1st one I've worked on. So I'm always learning something new about them.
Most of them seem to look similar for the 6cyl's but the difference I see in that one and the one in my pic's is the position of the hoses. They are both on the passenger side on the one in the pic's and most of the ones I look at online the hoses would go on the drivers side.
I have another question, not really related to the radiator problem. She also has a new rear window, just the glass, and needs the gasket or trim that goes around it to install it. I'm not sure what you'd call the piece, so its making it hard to find Anyone know and any places to buy it online would be helpful. I looked on broncograveyard but since I don't which part or parts I need it didnt help me much yet.

Thanks mil1ion. As for the additional truck info I still don't have any more yet. She went home early today, not feeling well, so I didnt get to ask her anymore about it or get to see it again. I'm hoping to find out in the next day or so. I believe it doesn't have A/C and that its an automatic, but not certain on either. And for the cooling question, no. Just the standard replacement radiator should be fine. She basically plans to drive it to the store as needed which is less then a mile from her home.
the one part i listed is the correct one. i have used it in 4 different 6cyl trucks. the rear window is easy to install. just take your time and don't break the glass. use lots of silicone spray and leave the rubber in the sun for 30 mins to allow it to stretch.
Is the radiator completely missing? A '74 radiator can be rebuilt pretty easily. Call around to radiator repair shops and you might be good to go. It is often less expensive to rebuild what you have than to buy a new replacement (which may be a rebuilt anyway).
oh, okay thanks ford390. I was just listing the only difference I saw. It does look the same other then that. For the window, I'll be sure to pick up some silicone spray.
No, OldDog, the radiator isn't missing. It still there, just has a sizeable leak in the middle of the front of it cause someone ran into the back of another vehicle. I've never heard anyone getting them repaired. But I guess the only person I knew w/a truck similar to this one was my dad, when I was about 4 or 5 Thanks for the info.
