Simple questions, need some simple answers.

Is stainless exhaust worth the extra money over aluminized?

What is the factory exhaust made of (97 250 short bed PSD)?

To muffle or not to muffle?

I am planning on getting a 3X4 downpipe, 4" resonator and 4" rest of the way (behind rear wheel) system from Tymar.

Anyone have a similar system that can comment?

I have searched the threads and found glimmerings of some definitive answers. But I'd really love to hear comments/opinions/facts about the 4 specific questions listed here.

Thanks, ladies and gentlemen! I look forward to hearing from you all!

Spend the money on the Stainless. The original is stainless as far as I know. Aluminized will rust pretty quick esp in northern states. Sounds good with the muffler, but if you want it loud, go straight pipe. It's not bad in the cab with the muffler, but would probably be a little loud with straight pipe.

1 Living in Pa I would go with the stainless .
2 The factory exhaust is stainless .
3 I run a 3 inch dp to a 4 inch cat delete to 4 inch straight to 45 elbow exiting in front of my right rear tire no muffler sounds great. I think I covered your last two questions with that . I just did that exhaust today before I went to work what a difference in the way she runs and man can you hear that turbo sing.

From what I can find, it appears that no manufacturer provides a T-304 3X4 downpipe and 4" rest of the way exhaust.
Anyone out there have an aluminized system that they can comment about its longevity?
Anyone out there have a T-409 system that they can comment about its longevity?

The more I research, the confuseder I get!
I am not afraid to spend some money, but I want what I spend it on to last a while!

I have the T-409 system.I have driven the truck very little this winter and my exhaust is complete rust.I took my 5" tip off so it did'nt get completely trashed.I have the MBRP system and I am not overly impressed with the way it is holding up.I bought the stainless thinking I could get a couple of years out of it with out it crapping up,but I was wrong.ckal704 I know PA uses alot less salt than NY so you may not have as bad a problem.Dave

I have been spending the morning trying to find the difference between 304 and 409 stainless.
From what I can discern from the various manufacturers, 409 is used extensively in the auto exhaust realm. It does develop surface rust, but that layer impedes further deterioration.
This makes sense to me because I used to have an 88 250 gasser with the factory exhaust. The pipes looked rusty, but retained considerable wall thickness and little or no flaking on the exterior rusted surface.
I guess that if you want pretty, you need to pay for 304, but if you can stand stock-ugly, 409 will do the trick and last longer than aluminized.
That's my plan and I am sticking to it.
Now, to find all the components in the sizes I want.............
