Hi,
Just wondering if you guys would happen to know if a small block bellhousing from a T18 will work on an NP435 4 speed or also will a bell housing from a 3speed 67 Bronco work on the Np435. I'm trying to figure out for a friend if any of these bellhousings will work on his 71 Ford 4x4.
I think they'll interchange, but I can't swear to it. Let's leave your question up here for a a day or so and if we can't get a definitive answer for you I'll move it to another forum that might be more appropriate.
I am putting a 351w in a 79 f-150 4x4 w/NP435. While it is not in yet, All the parts are in the ready to assemble and easy to measure up. The bell housing is from a 79 2wd 3-speed on the floor w Over-Drive (Four speed in a three speed shell). Anyway that bell housing fits the NP435 and is also the same as early bronco 289/302 three speeds. Both my transmissions had the same Input shaft length which will be an important factor.
So as Tiger Dan said I too believe that most are interchangable. But here are the dimensions of a known to fit NP435 Bell Housing.(70's vintage at least)
Dist across top trany bolt holes = 8-1/2"
Dist across bottom trany bolt holes = 8-1/2"
Dist Vertically trany bolt holes = 6-5/16"
Diameter of center hole = 4.850 just under 4-7/8"
Depth of housing engine face to trany face = 6-1/4" ( relates to input shaft length)
I am not sure about the T-18 fitting, But I do know a 67 bronco three speed will fit.
