I was wanting to know what these numbers mean on my motor. First one I got from the passenger side of the block D3TE and under the oil filter on the drivers side it was small but I am think it had 5C12 can anyone tell me what these mean about my block?
okay guys big news for me. I was checking some other post and I think I got a 105 block. On the driver side under the head it has 105 mirror image look so does this mean I got that block and if so what is so great about these blocks and should I attempt to rebuild it even if it is 60 over already?

The D3TE should be followed by another letter, it is the casting prefix that shows when it was designed, what for and what division of Ford dproduced it. D3 is 1973, T is for a truck application, E is for Engine(I think). The 5C12 stands for 5= 1975, C= March, 12 = well 12. So it was cast March 12, 1975.
The mirror 105 blocks have beefier main caps and supposedly thicker cylinder walls. How much over the .060 are you needing to go??
How would my block be a 73 and made in a 75 ? I dont know if I would bore anymore maybe just a fresh set of rings dont know if I can go over on it anymore
Putt is correct on the date code. Ford often used the same castings for years at a time with only minor changes or revisions. Some of the 105 blocks were cast with thicker 428 cyl wall cores making them thick walled blocks able to go to 4.13 std 428 bore and then some sonic map and coreshift permitting. Try the "drill bit test" that's a good way to tell what wall cores your block was cast with. A 13/64" drill bit shank will fit snugly between the 428 cyl wall cores inside the freeze plugs. A 17/64" bit for 390 cyl wall cores. You woll need to remove the blocks freese plugs (3 on each side) to reveal the cyl wall cores. You simply convert the 64"'s to match your bit sizes if needed.
Really dont want to pull the plugs out yet but I will remember to do that when I tear it down to see what is all wrong with it. Thanks guys for the input.
