how can i find the year of my motor i just found out by the last owner its a 390 but it came from the junkyard cuz the last motor in it cracked the block, so i was wondering what casting #'s will tell me the year. thanks
the d is the decade c=60's, d=70's, e=80's etc. The 3 is is the year it was cast, so the block was cast in 1973. The block should have a casting number by the oil filter adapter.
the motor thats in my truck "390" has D3TE stamped upside down on the paasenger side of the block and i have a 360 in another truck that says D3TE stamped right side up on the passenger side, does the upside down one suppose to mean anything or what.
I looked at my motor, knowing it has been replaced, and in the front of the block by the oil filter assy it says "66" then right under it says "352" do I have a 352 from 1966 ??
well i dont know for sure but most blocks have 352 on the block i have a 390 that has 352 on it and a 360 that has it, i have heard of other guys same the same thing in these forums, on gtex's block that is a 428 says 352 on the block. so you never know
i have no idea what them stand for, but i am sure there are a lot of guys that do know i will look in my book right now to see if i can find them if i do i will post back.
my big block ford engines by steve christ tells me D3TE stands for 1973, and i have a352 with C3TE and it says that stands for 1963 and them #'s seem to be accurate as the 352 was in a 63, and the 390 was in a 73, so if they dont stand for that then what do they stand for
The casting # just tells you that the block casting was ORIGINALLY cast in that model year, not neccessarily that the block was actually made that year, the date code will tell you exactly when it was cast. The casting # tells you what vehicle the part was originally made for, but not neccessarily that the part came from that vehicle. For instance, the heads that came on all 87-93 Stangs ( casting # E7TE) were originally truck castings and those castings were first made in the 1987 model year. The Christ book and others are well known for their errors also. George Reids books are as well .
