buying a 16' dual axle utility trailer to be mainly used for hauling 4-wheelers and general use. Is it worth the extra $300 to get one with an electric brake on one axle or not?
05 F-250 CC, 6.0, SCMT
I would get the brakes just because I would eventually probably use that trailor for heavy loads. It would be nice to have them if you needed them. But that's just me. If you feel that you wont EVER need to tow anything heavy, well, personal choice based on your intended use.
If you travel to other states. Some states require brakes if it has a capacity to haul over 2000 lbs. It would be worth it and I'd sure feel better about being able to stop quicker in an emergency.
I would do it. For the little money a brake costs you, it's nice to know your going to stop when that fool in front of you does something stupid. Just your truck alone is alot of weight. You can never have to much braking ability in my eyes.
i would go with brakes on both axles. so states require it.
besides, if you do a panic stop you would want every avaible axle braking trying to slow you down.
I would go with the brakes also... 70 + on the expressway and the next thing you know you come over a hill and everyone is stopped. The trailer brakes will be a big help.
This is a no brainer really. Your state may not require them, but most do on at least one axle. Why put all that added stress of braking with more mass on your vehicle brakes? You are likely to overheat them and cause problems with your rotors such as warping or boiling your fluid. Its not worth it and you will probably want it later on anyway. Then it will be a hassle to get them put on. Once you have a trailer, not only do you become more popular, but you find other uses for it.
Definetly,,get the trailer brakes, I would think a trailer of that size would come with atleast one axle with brakes on it ! After all a 16' trailer you can put quite the load on one.
$1595 for a 16' dual axle, pipe rails, brake on one axle and a gate. Does that sound about right..bear in mind that this down in south louisiana where trailers have been a little hard to find since katrina /rita
Hey Boomer...I'm in louisiana also...I just bought a 16' and a 20'...PM me where you are and I can tell you where to get the best deals for the best quality. I searched for a long time and fought off a lot of price gougers.
What type of fenders does the one you looking at have? Also does it come with any ramps?
