Looking for new shocks

I'm looking to upgrade from the stock shocks on my 2004 F150 Screw to get a smoother/more controlled ride. I get a lot of rear end hop which I'm trying to get rid of. I've seen some recommendations for the Bilsteins, but have also heard that they are pretty stiff shocks and may not eliminate the read end hop. can anyone comment on the this or recommend another strut/shock combo they like?

Just to add

I am also installing a 2" auto spring leveling kit at the same time and slightly larger tires to follow.

Go with Bilsteins, they are the best out there. This will eliminate your rear end bounce/hop and improve the handling. You will not find a better shock out ther trust me!

I personally like Donagoe Racing or King Shocks. Based on what I have read and heard of both companies I would consider them the best. They're pricey but their quality is top notch. I haven't decided which one to choose myself though. LOL

Jlalanas, check ebay for bilstiens shocks, some front shocks have a 2" lift setting which
will work for you since you want to get it leveled.
save $100 or so without getting the leveling kit

I would go Bilsteins as well. Had them on my 96 Explorer and made a world of difference. I was just thinking about this the other day myself, and would plan on buying Bilsteins when the time comes.

On a side noted, are you lifting the truck 2"? This will adversely affect the ride to some degree. I've read places, including Motor Trend on their one-year F150, that weight in the bed or the rear lowering shackles really help settle the hop. Just my 2 cents.

uh oh - I'm WAY outnmumbered here but I am really digging my Monroe Reflex. Not gonna bash Bilstein, they are great!!! But for my use the Reflex give me a little more cush during that first 1/2" of movement.

Either way you go - VAST improvement over stock.

I agree with les017 On my sporttrac I went with the Reflex by Monroe. I liked them because they got rid of the "Ford Float". That everyone hates.I also just purchased a screw and plan on upgrading to the reflexes

bilstein shocks

O.K. just looked up the bilstein shocks for my truck. Because of the front leveling and rear add-a-leaf must upgrade to there 0-2" version shocks. Fronts 149.95 each and rears 75.00each. So the grand total of 450.00 for shocks! Plus now installation. What am I missing here. I know bilsteins are good but 450.00 good? To the guys that have replaced theres did you spend that much? I replaced my bilstein shocks on last truck(came thru factory) at 80,000 with the rancho 5000's and thought ride quality was the same. Those were buy three and get 4th free at the time. In a nutshell I’m going to need some good convincing to spend double on these shocks. I’m not bashing bilstein . But for the guy’s out there with limited funds is it worth us spending the extra money?

I put the Bilsteins on my 2004 S'Crew and they are fantastic. Better in every way. I ordered them from eshocks and the price was great.

I didn't raise the front of my truck but I did use Ground Force shackles for a 2" drop in the rear.
