Originally the Computer will think that you are getting less O2 than in reallity, so it will lean the system, but then the O2 Sensor will detect a lean condition, and the computer will flip flop trying to correct the problem.
Yup, flip flopping results in a slightly lean average, with poor performance and economy. I find most MAF equiped systems rely most heavily upon the MAf, and use the O2 for fine tuneing the mix. If the MAF is faulty, it results is wilder fluctuation in economy, but if it passes out of spec, the O2 becomes the primary mixture sensor.
I have a small problem and I know its mixture related. When I take a sharp turn and slam the gas, my van cuts off power and the A/F ratio is all the way on the lean side then after the turn is complete the ratio is back to normal/rich. So far I changed the fuel filter, MAF sensor and checked fuel pressure. The problem is still there... so would my o2 sensor cause this leaning out? People are telling me its the fuel pump, but my car starts up fine and handles RPMs all the way up to 6K like nothing.... does anyone think they can solve this problem what it could be?

If your O2 sensor has more than 60,000 miles on it, I would just replace it, but I don't think that it is the problem. The MAF, maybe. Fuel pump, quite likely. Electrical problem, very likely.
Does a dirty MAF make cruise mixture richer or leaner?

Any noticeable symptoms? My '93 4.0 pinged an awful lot. Mileage was down too. I bought a set of tamper-proof tork bits, removed the MAF and cleaned it with contact cleaner. Pinging stopped in all but the most severe loads.
