stuck in 4-high

stuck in 4-high
hello ,
i have a 1989 ranger 2.9 liter engine ,auto trans 150000miles on the truck.
the truck runs great except it is stuck in 4 high. i work at a sand and gravel quarry and the other day things were muddy so i put the truck in 4 high to back out of a spot i was in , i only traveled about 20 feet or so at a low rate of speed and stopped the truck to put it in 2 wheel drive , when i hit the button nothing happened hit it again still nothing went to pull it in the garage at work and the 4 low light started to flash, i checked everything i could think of but still locked in 4 high
any help would be greatly appreciated
