4 inch and a V10

I currently have a V10, I was wondering about running a 4 inch exhaust. Ypipe back. Don't care about smog (got a guy) so cat will be gone, and tuned flowing 7inch exhaust.

For all you wondering why? I have a cummins sitting in the garage, but not all the parts that I need to install it yet. Trying to get as much mpg as possible out of this pig.

I don't think back pressure is going to be a problem, cause my friend runs open header on his with no problem.

Thanks
Chris

The V10 is only 415cid. 3" is plenty. Just replace the cat with a piece of 3" pipe. It's won't sound good at all.

Tuned flowing 7inch exhaust? What?

Bigger is not always better. The best mpg you are going to get is the way the truck is set up now. You are going to loose all the o2 sensors and what not and the truck is going to run like garbage, and get worse mpg.

sorry, 4 inch exhaust and a 7 inch tuned muffler. for a DIESEL. would the v10 run okay? no cat, 4 inch from the y pipe back.

I am going to do a diesel conversion soon, I was just wondering if a 4 inch exhaust would work with a v10 until i wedge in the cummins.

Oh, it'll run just fine Might be too big a pipe. Too big, and you don't get the scavenging effect, which can hurt power and MPG (although less power is better MPG).

Don't mention removing the cat, you're making some of us "Metro" guys a little PO'd ... and I don't mean "metrosexual"...

lurking and just had to remark

[QUOTE=cumminpwr11]I currently have a V10, I was wondering about running a 4 inch exhaust. Ypipe back. Don't care about smog (got a guy) so cat will be gone, and tuned flowing 7inch exhaust. " QUOTE"

SOUNDS like you don't like the federal smog laws very well.

QUOTE "For all you wondering why? I have a cummins sitting in the garage, but not all the parts that I need to install it yet. Trying to get as much mpg as possible out of this pig. " QUOTE

PIG! thats what that cumapart is plus it's a ship ancor, i do mean ancor. cummins metropower, newark new jersey , former line tech , in chassis rebuilder. leave the v10 alone thats where you get the best mpg's bone stock

QUOTE "I don't think back pressure is going to be a problem, cause my friend runs open header on his with no problem. " QUOTE

yea and what is he getting 8 mpg's this motor the v10 loves back pressure and run s better with the cat in place , even sounds better with big mufflers. like a banks or a flow master 70, the firing order make them sound way out of tune with less in most cases.

this is a v10 lovers area, not a bash the v10 for a diesel area, esp. when several of us have had psd's. duramaxes and cumaparts and had very bad luck with them. plus for me i had to fix a lot of 5.9's that were over screwed and cost the owners big time in unwarrenteyed repairs from over fueling them.
my strongest suggestion is go buy your self a new dodge and PLEASE don't knock our loved v10's down here by calling them "PIGS".
cumaparts my last set"marine 5.9's " are sitting in a rust pile along with about 20 others "cumaparts" that were yanked out of boats and replaced with small cats and yanmars, due to pouris blocks and broken crankshafts.or even just out right blown up.
sorry guy but i have no love of some one who wants or does half breed our beloved ford super duty or a vintage ford with putting a chevy into it. my blood runs ford blue 100%.

I don't beleive he's bashing the V10. Just a simple question about the exhaust. Now please stop bashing the Cummins. Thanks.

Ford V10 forum my dear...what on earth do you expect?...Respect for the competition?..not gonna happen. We can be nice but we still mostly think the V10 is the best motor ever made and to morph a Dodge motor into a great already SuperDuty is a bit of sacrilege to many of us.

Now a fellow or gal that wants to put the Cummins turbo diesel in a Chevy or a Toyota?... I am all for that swap! (grin)

I love my V10 in my Excursion too but I also love my (non Dodge) Cummins as far as a diesel is concerned. Sorry if I'm open minded. Lol.

No harm, we all love differnet stuff and not a problem being open minded... it really is not about the Cummins down here it is more about gas vs oil burners and some of us got strong opinions.

If I sounded too harsh, sorry... but a few of us want every body to know real quick that in a oil vs gas war we go ugly early! No real sense of humor because too many trolls come down here and bait for a fight... and quite frankly my first thought on the original post was...TROLL!

same here TROLL, a dodge TROLL

i am not bashing the cummins just speaking hard learnded truth. every semi rig driver out there calls a cummins a cumapart, so do charter and party boat captains .
personal.ex. 3- 855-400hp's all blew up prematurely. kta 600 in one of the over road rigs i owned blew and was repowered with a cat 3408 425 hp, my 1964 williams wood hull charter boat ,yanked the blown cummins v903t's and repowered with 3408 cats . another boat pourus block casting in both 5.9 motors replaced with 2 yanmars.
12 years grave yard shift "2nd job" cummins metro power in new jersey. rebuilt so many 5.9's i most likly can still do them in my sleep.. it's not a bad motor just don't retune them.
and yes i love my v10 05 s/d big time . no plugs in the cold of winter, no problems towing my boat, same fuel milage as i got out of a stock 7.3 psd.
as to the rest of how i feel.THANK YOU FRED RIGHT ON THE HEAD.

how correct. yank that thing off and go with a flow master 70 or a banks "just tip it on the end for looks" . they sound better to my old fart/drag racer ears. good luck with what ever else you deside on.

Funny thing is, I'm installing a Cummins in my 1992 F-350 crew cab 4x4 also!
Let me know what problems you incounter with the install process.
As for the 4" exhaust on a V10, It will work with no real bad effects.
