Question bumper pull trailer

Need to pick up 16' bumperpull stock trailer and don't have receiver hitch (yet). How much weight can I safely put on the bumper of "90 F150 1/2 ton?

The ratings are usually stamped into the bumper near where the hitch attaches. Usually Ford bumpers are rated at 5000#.

I would not put much more than about 500# tounge weight and 3500# total weight. I have snapped bumpers off my truck with about 4000# trailer and 350# tongue weight. A shock load such as a large bump or hard breaking could due some harm.

I pulled about 4200 on the bumper a while back and it did alright. I've since gotten a receiver hitch, so I don't have to do that anymore. It made me pretty nervous looking at the trailer on the bumper, but I had no problems.

My grandfather tried pulling a Maxum 28 ft boat with his F250 460. Lets just say that bumber didn't hold up to well. I have a hercules bumber on my truck that can pull 12,000lbs.

Yeah, I would limit it to about 4000lbs. I have pulled more, but I wouldn't do it again. You'll be much happier with a receiver hitch. I noticed a huge improvement in the way the RV towed.
