The 427 rockers are just std adjustable FE rockers. They were not 427 specific. Any solid cam FE used the adjustable rockers and all the same otherwise. As far as .003 oversize adjuster screws go I've had good and bad luck with those. If the stock rocker adjuster is very worn and loose the .003 adjusters should thread in ok. On adjusters that are a tick less than 7 ft lbs breakaway I've found the .003 adjuster screws will start to thread then pull crooked and start to cross thread. I had my buds machine shop retap them for me and they were just fine then for the .003's. The stock rocker arm has a 7/16 x 20 special form thread with a pitched diameter of .4025-.3978. They used to make a .002 adjuster screw I found at NAPA but I haven't seen those for years. As far as I know stock rockers should be no problem to get. Try another store or a different guy behind the parts counter. I think these are a Melling part now for the aftermarket. Not positive tho....
This is too easy. Here's how I got my two extra when DSC sold me two bad ones in a set.
You walk into Napa. You tell the guy behind the counter you need two rocker arms for a 1963 390 police interceptor motor (or pretty much any early solid lifter motor). He will start to look it up in his book. You remind him to look in the car section not the truck section. After he finds them, make sure the ones he's looking at say adjustable by them, then tell him to order two of them. A couple days to a week later, you go back in and pick them up.
Easy for you, perhaps...but as I told y'all in my first post several weeks ago American engines are new to me. I typically rebuild English cars (MGs), not American. Consequently, I know little to nothing about American engines.
I first contacted DSC Motorsport, but like most folks was unable to get hold of Dennis. When I talked to the person at Napa all I knew to ask for was what you suggested...427 adjustable rocker arms. He said that they weren't available either new or aftermarket. I then went to two other Napa stores, including the distribution center here in north Texas and they said the same thing.
At that point I started calling places around the country and managed to find 14 427 adjustable rocker arms.
Sorry if that's how I came across. I cant possibly remember everything that was said in everyone's posts from weeks ago.
You're not alone though. Unfortunately, the FE is not a well-known engine any more by most counter-jockeys at Napa. You kind of have to herd them into finding the right part number, like I just described. When you told them "427" they thought "yeah right." I got mine there so I know they have them.
Actually NAPA,s online system doesn't even show a 427. Only the 352, 390 and 428, which is probably why the counter moron couldn't find it under 427. Use Rusty's method, it will work. I went at it from the 1962 390 hp motor, same result, the CEP2142035 number came up.
Ton that was the part number right off the sight. Email me and I'll send the page to you. It does not work for me either in a search. But I can look it up and find it tho...??
Bear NAPA does list a 427 If you plug in a 68 Mustang for some reason it will give you the 427 engine. Weird huh? I was surprised to see it myself.
