My 96 E350 PSD won't start. The starter sounded terrible. Made horrible grinding noise, so I replaced it. I can't get it start now. I hope I just drained the batteries when I was trying to get it started before replacing the starter. But I put it on a 60amp jump start and it wouldn't start either. Im gonna charge the batteries up over night and try again in the morning. This E350 is an ambulance, I hope there wasnt a different starter that I needed, I just went to the local AutoZone. Ford wanted $290 for a reman and AutoZone only wanted $189.
Any other ideas if charging the batteries doesn't work? Its not cold enough here to be weather related. The unit is garaged. The Wait to Start light stays on for about 20-25sec. And the glow plugs were recently replaced. Doesn't smoke, except after 3-4 failed attempts to start, then some white smoke comes from the tail pipe.
About 25,000 miles ago a mechanic said the motor was shot and needed to be replaced because their was oil in the water. I flushed the radiator and refilled and hasn't happened again. I think a retarded employee put oil in the water myself.
Hopefully it has started by now, but that 60 amp jump start won't do squat on a PSD. It takes a LOT more amps then that to turn this thing over properly.
