When pressing the gas, (between 0-15 MPH) there is a "grinding noise" that can be heard inside and outside of the truck. I can't figure out what's causing it but it is really annoying. I recently had some belts replaced (Warranty) and it seems that the noise began shortly after that. Any thoughts?
I was on here a few months back asking about another noise that my truck was making. The dealership finally figured out what it was... The bolts in the bed of the truck were loose. I checked everything from the ash tray to rear sliding window and FINALLY found the problem.
I had the same grinding noise from start and at idle while in drive. For my truck, it turned out to be that the gasket that secures the intake to the body had come loose, and the hard plastic intake was rattling against the metal body at idle and low rpm. Once I re-secured the gasket, the rattle and the grinding sound disappeared!
I can see that this could be a common problem, so at least check your intake. Mine was loose and would move up and down several inches wihtout the gasket secured. With the gasket in place and tight, the intake is nice and snug, and more importantly everything is quiet!
TX, what intake are you talking about? Do you mean the wiper cowl at the bottom of the windshield? Surely you don't mean the intake on the engine, if so and you could move it up an down several inches the truck would not run!
Yes, the intake. When the gasket that holds the intake to body of the truck comes loose, the entire intake comes loose. It does not disconnect from the throttle body or manifold, but it will move up and down several inches.
You're talking about the air intake tube that goes to the fenderwell. I thought you were talking about the intake manifold. This part bolts directly to the block and the throttle body sits on top of that.
I am currently experiencing a similar problem. I have a 2004 stx 4x4. Recently if I make a quick left or a swerve, I will hear a grinding rattling noise. I took the truck to the dealer. The checked it and said that an error code came up when they checked the 4 wheel drive with the computer. Some kind of vacuum seal was not releasing? They reset the computer code and told me that it was fixed. The next day the noise reappeared. I have a 2nd service scheduled for next week. Anyone know this issue? The noise sounds like you are dragging an aluminum trash can. When you hit the brakes something locks in and it stops.
thanks
