Light Help

The other night I was driving and I started to smell burning plastic, soon my headlights started to flicker then went out. I flicked the switch in and out and my marker and dash lights went out too. Luckily I was close to home and made it back w/o lights. I assumed it was the headlight switch so I replaced it and some blown fuses in the panel - - still no lights. Where should I check next? Thanks for the help

normally when the headlight switch goes, you will have to replace the wiring pigtail to the switch also.

Its an '89 F250, I'll check for power at the pigtail are there any fuses under the hood I should check - If so where are they?

Finally got it all figured out, ended up being a shorted/melted/burned dimmer switch, bad headlight switch and a few blown fuses. Finally got the mess sorted out and back in working order
