I really want to get into one of these cars. I nearly bought a Mach 1 but decided the Cobra would be even better. Since I won't be able to get the '07 at a reasonable price, I thought this would be the best route.
Any suggestions on what to look for with these cars? Are they all they're cracked up to be?
I went on the SVTOA message board and it was very quiet, not much activity.
A friend of mine has one and it is simply awesome. He has also added a smaller supercharger pully and a cold air kit. They are known for shredding the independent rear suspension(mainly from hard launches), but he has not had any problems. I would love to get one also, but they are still a little pricy for me yet.
We have a 97 Cobra. Its non supercharged. I wouldn't trade for a newer one. Ours still has a solid rear axle not that rear independent crap. I hate that setup. It may handle a little better but it sucks for hooking up at the strip. We are going to be adding a supercharger to it sometime soon. The newer Cobras are still a blast to drive though. The mach 1 would be fun too. I don't know of any real problem areas with them. The only potential problem I can think of is keeping good Z rated tires on it. The SVTOA board is not nearly as active as this one is. That is probably because there is not nearly as many people who own SVT vehicles compared to those of us truck owners.

if you want a really good Cobra message board site, go to svtperformance.com... i am a member there and there are TONS of 03/04 cobra guys there...i'm 95_tbird_lx there
the '03 had a problem with the drivers side (i think drivers side) head. it was repaired under a warranty/recall. they all should of had it done but you want to make sure. the corrected head will have blue paint on it.
Thanks for the heads up. The dealers are trying to stick me up with the Cobras yet seem willing to deal on the Mach 1's, I don't get it. I'll keep trying to find a nice one that is unmolested, I don't trust some of the folks doing the upgrades themselves.
A friend bought one a few years ago. Had to do some shopping to find a dealer who'd work with him but I think he got it for $28K brand new because of the discounts, rebates, and Labor Day sale silliness. Drove it home and had it at the dragstrip a couple months later. With merely a K & N filter, he whittled the times down to 12.5 @ 115 on the factory tires. No chip, no exhaust, no pulley swaps. If only that engine were in the '05 body.....
They are insanely fast, insanely easy to make faster, and worth every penny. They're not going to be easy to get a good deal on as their demand is too high. Great cars, hopefully you can find one that hasn't been too beat on but they're all going to have some hard miles on them. Enjoy!
