I recently passed the 30k mile mark and will share my experiences with those who are considering the purchase of a 2004 and up F-150. I have an '04 FX4, SCrew, 5.4l.
Short version - best truck I have owned but not entirely trouble-free.
Longer version - I have had warranty work done on the rattling rear slider (fixed first time), shudder in driveline (lubed slip yoke, fixed first time, stayed fixed), replaced rear differential clutch pack, repaired leaking front axle housing, and, most recently, interior lights at the odometer and window switches. FWIW, the complete instrument cluster had to be replaced to correct the problem with no light at the odometer. They also replaced the front brake assemblies (rotors, pads, and calipers) without even asking because they felt a pulsation from the front brakes that I hadn't even noticed. That's pretty much it. As I have noted, all problems were fixed correctly on the first attempt with no fuss or argument. While I can't say the '04 has been entirely trouble-free, I can't complain about the quality of service I have received. All things considered, the items I have listed are probably about the norm for most first-year production vehicles. I still enjoy driving it more than any truck I have owned.
Great post. It's good to hear the problems have been fixed the first time and that you still love the truck after 30k. I have an 05 SCrew with a mere 1,700 on it and have really enjoyed this truck so far. I had a couple rattles fixed last month at the dealer and had a similar experience. Very professional service and everything taken care of right the first time. I liked the attention to detail too. I had my 6 disk changer switched out because it was not an MP3 deck as stated on the window. When I picked up the truck, I thought to myself "oh man...forgot to pull the six disks out of the old unit..." When I fired up the new deck, all 6 disks were loaded in the exact order that they were loaded in the original deck.
I have a '04 that I bought 3 months ago with 14000, now it has 25000. It has only been in the shop for crossed tranny vent tubes, and a axel seal that I may have inadvertantly damaged when I converted the rear end to LS.
With 34K on my 04 FX4 SCAB, I can not be happier. Under warranty, they have fix 1 bad tranny temperature sensor at 500 miles and replaced the rear end at 15K. All work done right the first time.
I have 19K miles on my 04 XLT SCAB and have been very lucky. Outside of the butyl pad recall the only warranty work I had to have done was a new molding on the DS roof which kept coming loose.
I have an 04 Lariat 5.4, 3:73 LS, approaching 28K miles, only had it in for the water leak under the cab light and the rear electric sliding window motor. That's it!
I was hesitant buying a truck being that I had SUV's, net net, this truck not only tows better, but rides better, handles better, and is almost luxury car quiet offering great comfort. Need I say more!
