I have a real problem with two issues. one the number 3 intake valve sticks open on my 351m/400 causing a constant ticking noise and rough idle is there anyway to clean the "varnish" off the stem? two does anybody have vacuum diagram for this engine (1978 F150, 4x4, a/c, manual, no smog pump)

Sometimes a condition called *Exhaust pop* can replicate valve ticking.
This condition is caused by a slight leak between the head & the exhaust manifold.
Valve ticking:
Put some STP, Bardahl,etc *Upper Cylinder lubricant* in the gasoline to help remedy this problem.

Run a bunch of Sea Foam or Marvel mystery oil throught the carb a little at a time. Also add some to oil.both products work really good at cleaning up an engine.
