I bought a factory 4 bb; manifold for my 78 351W, got it out of a early 80's van. The carb was gone but there was this aluminum plate sitting there that I grabbed. I assume it's to block manifold heat from the carb. Where does it go? Between the manifold and spacer or the spacer and carb? What about a gasket for the thing?
I don't know if I can shed any light on this, but here is a guess. On my 1977 351M there is a plate between the 2-bbl carburetor and the manifold. This is the EGR plate. It has two runners extending toward the rear of the engine. On the end of these runners is what I would call a flange or mounting port for the EGR valve.
Is your engine a 351W or 351M? The 351M/400 engines were used from 1977 into the early 80's. Ford did not send any of these from the factory with 4-bbl carburetors. The intake manifolds are different for these two engines.
I have the Winsor. I have the EGR plate but it's not the one I'm talking about. This is a flat aluminum plate, not thick at all. Don't know what it does or if I even need it.
Just a thought but could it be something to keep dirt out of the intake manifold when the carb was removed?
