I don't think np205s are helical cut, they are cut at an angle. any type of gears will try to push the case apart.

btw, np205s are best for high horsepower.

look at almost any high power 4wd, if there not running a drop box, its a 205.

All 205's are the same, where you run into trouble is when you mix up the adapters and tailshafts(tranny)- keep the long shaft with the long adapter and the short shaft with the short adapter. Doesn't really pertain to this situation as there is only one adapter/ output shaft for his particular truck. Different length shaft/adapters are only an issue for the C-6 tranny, heres the breakdown--long shaft used on the C-6 with the 205, short shaft used on the C-6 with the 203 and the 208. Anyways, if you do go with the 205, it will fit on the back of your tranny, but you will have a number of issues to face-- the aforementioned notch to be cut in the adapter to clear the shift rod. driveshafts will not be the right length anymore. will likely have clearance issues with front driveshaft and crossmember. front driveshaft could be extremely close to tranny case/pan. loss of performance in low range due to wimpy ratio of 205. Need to add additional side support for heavier 205. I would recommend rebuilding your BW or getting another one and think about what snoman suggested with lower gears- lower gears will make life a lot easier on the upstream drivetrain components.

Isn't the Atlas 2 based on the 205? or is it the D300 that it is based on all 3 it seems are gear driven and seem to be the dominate tc for off roading.

He will not have to clearence the crossmember, as the newer trucks have more of a drop to them. You'll have to cut about 4-5" out of the front shaft and have a longer rear shaft made about 4-5" longer.

it may be the strongest out there but i disagree its the dominate! the low range SUCKS. a 205/203 is best if you have the room and dont care about the weight!

yes the low range is terrible, and with an np435 it sucks because its like adding another gear on because of how the ratios are all just split in half

amyway, yes the 205 is cheap simple and stout, but the low range stinks

i still run one though

I run one in my 80 cause we've had bad luck strecthing chains in the 208's (reason why the stock got swapped out in the first place), and plus in the pitts, if a low range of lower than 2.0:1, you've got other issues to worry about.
