I dont have any pics but my bench is 16' long and 32" deep and 45" tall. I'm kind of tall reason for being so high. All 2x4 framed and anchored to the wall of the garage. I also had a old water bed with the "platform" with drawers and center cabinet. I took one of the halfs and bolted to underneath one end of bench and left the reamaing 8' open for storage oh bigger stuff. Came out pretty cool, I have my drill press, vise, and al my other "stuff" on it. Sorry to say my garage (shop) is not as clean as Draglink's but it gets the job done LOL.
Ours came with the house/garage. About 9 feet long and 24" deep. Consists of two old, wooden, 20" wide, 5-drawer kitchen cabinets with 2x4's spanning between them for the top and shelf and a 2-by top covered with 3/4" MDF. I'm pretty sure it's attached to the wall studs. I once pried on the vise hard enough to break the vise base, but didn't budge the bench.
20/20 hindsight note: MDF is an ok work surface, but slap a heavy coat of polyurethane on it before using. Otherwise keeping it clean is basically impossible. Of course, stains add character...
In the basement I have one of those "Lowe's specials" 2-drawer, metal frame benches. It's actually not a bad little hobby bench (which is what I got it for), but I wouldn't do any serious pounding on it.
In the other house, I have a two old kitchen cabinets side by side that serve as one bench, using the original laminated top and back-splash. Used mostly as a large, flat surface to collect junk... I also have a bench I made when I was 16 out of 2x4's with a 2x8 top. It's a great example of how NOT to build a bench. Heavy, but not stable... Uneven work-surface... Basically a piece of junk.
i have 2 work benches. 1 on the back of the 79, and 1 on the back of the 88. they are called tailgates.
i have been saying i am going to build a big one on the wall for 5 years now, but i never seem to get past the tailgate of whichever truck is nearest the garage.
and draglink, nice choice on a car. the 65 futura 2 dr HT is my favorite.
IBeam - i got a "STIHL" badge on the front of my truck , does that count ?
ROFL I was waiting for a comment like that. Yep it works.
I take it you cut your own firewood. I noticed the worn out Bar's hanging on the wall. I do as well. Nothing better then a fire to help out the heat bill. I have the Homelite 410. I like the power of being able to chew through big logs, and a 23 inch bar, I hate bending over to cut logs on the ground.
And just so it is not off topic, my kid stated that chainsaw up one time on the bench, and cut the counter top in half that quick.
IBeam - yeah i do cut firewood but not for me . im a tree surgeon and any logs i get from jobs i normaly give away . i mainly use stihl and huscvana for the big felling work . this bench is ideal for maintaing and sharpeng my chainsaws which is a must to keep them working good .
