I'm looking for the best deal on a rear driveline for my 99 F-250 SD 4X4 Super Cab,Automatic, with 6' box. Any suggestions? Stealership says it needs to be replaced, bad vibes at 40 mph and above...Any help appreciated! Stealership says $550.00 not installed. Local used parts not available, at least up to this point. Not sure I wanna go that route anyway. Currently 99,000 miles.
Have you checked for any local driveline speciality shops? If it's bent, I guess you would have to replace it but could be in need of balancing or may have carrier or u-joint problems. I think a good driveline shop could even straighten a bent shaft for less than what you're being quoted. I'd sure find a shop and let them check it out first.
Thanks, the stealership says the u-joints on either side of the support just past the t-case are shot. The "cardmon bearings" (?) are stiff and no longer have lubricant. I understand that the u-joints are permanently lubed. I will check with local drivetrain folks. I didnt think about them when told about the problem. Thanks!
would be willing to bet that a local driveline shop would be able to rebalance the driveline if that is truely what is wrong. If the bearings are shot they could be creating oscillations that cause the driveline to wobble due to resanant frequencies. Either way, take it down to local shop.
I had to replace mine for worn splines on it and it was $550.00 from Ford. I priced getting mine rebuilt and balanced and found that it was only about $50.00 cheaper than getting the new one, but I had the new one the next day and Ford installed it too for that price. It appears that the new one is a lot beefier than the old one was also.

Sounds like that's the best deal, even though it's a little more expensive.
