Im new to this website and to the Ford escape.I have a 2005 escape v6 with 20k miles on it currently.I have performed all regular maintence and run synthetic lube in motor/trans.My problem started about a month ago i notced the truck wouldnt start right away, crank and crank till finally she went.Today driving to work i have lost 30-40% power based on my best guess.I drove with overdrive off to keep it from bogging severely, without doing that it would be a danger passing(thats how bad it is).Im thinking the truck may only be running on 5 cyl right now. when i get home im planning checking the plug/wire coilpack. If that doesnt solve my prob with a check and or replace of the above, does anybody have any suggestions.Im hoping someone else has encountered this....?This truck is just to new to be doing this i really dont want to go to Ford either.

Your Escape is under warranty so why not take it to Ford and let them look at it? Hard to believe that your check engine light isn't on. It sounds like your computer is in some kind of "limp" mode.
Ford replaced all the the coil on plugs, all 6 spark plugs, ignition module, pcm, and had to re-calibrate all the keys for the truck. so in a nut shell all the ignition. It was under warranty thank god.Im very dissapointed that with 20k on the clock this would be an issue
Heavens to Betsy, sounds like the Ford tech couldn't figure out the source of the problem so he just replaced the entire ignition system. No way that makes sense but at least they footed the bill.
LOL i couldnt understand why they replaced everything either. but now i have new ignition and i dont have to change my plugs for a while.the funny thing is the truck runs better than when it was new, it was always slightly rough now i have no complaints.

Really though, think about it. The labor time involved in diagnosing the exact problem would probably be more costlier than what they did. What do these guys charge now, $85 an hour labor? Maybe more? Don't really know, last time I went to a dealer for a repair it was about $55 an hour, but that was over 10 years ago.
They figured since it was under warranty, just swap everything out and hope for the best. Helluva way of doing things in this high tech world we live in...
I'm having the same problem with my escape, except no Check engine light. I am trying to troubleshoot it, but so far no luck. Changed plugs and EGR valve so far. Still in limp mode. Don't see any vacuum leaks. Hope it's not the PCM- big bucks that I don't have. I'll post what the problem was if I don't shoot it first! LOL ANyone have any ideas? Thanks. Mike
Bad gas can also cause these kind of symptoms. I had a similar experience this summer with my Mustang GT and it was bad gas. Another possibility is moisture from washing the engine at a car wash.
THanks, but I haven't washed mine lately and if it doesn't start acting good I may never give it a bath again! Is there anything I have to do to reset the computer besides disconnecting the battery for a few minutes? What I can't understand is that as poorly as it's running that the Engine light never comes on! I was going to take it to Autozone to get the codes read but got on the road and turned right around. It would only go about 20 MPH.
Boy if that don't sound like a plugged up cat converter. That would be the first thing I would have checked out. A muffler shop could tell you if its plugged or not. What is baffling is the CHECK ENGINE light is not coming on, but then again the cat converter may be by passed.
Good idea Tony. Thanks. Any way to check it myself? It doesn't even run well enough to get it on the road. Can it have a diagnostic code even if the Engine Light never came on?
