I changed my stabilizer on my 95 F-450 I bought from Napa they insisted it was the right one. So I bought it I think it cost me around 90 dollars I used it for couple months and ever since my steering has been funny and its been getting worse. So I went to my local parts store they found out from their aftermarket suppliers there wasn't a aftermarket stabilizer for the 94-97 F-450 trucks.
So I phoned Ford got a stabilizer it cost me 161 dollars
I had no choice I need a stabilizer I have death wobble time to time the orginal stabilizer on the truck was baffed out and was bent because someone before me bent it.
So all in all I'am a little poorer and now my truck is back to normal the damn people at the Napa store need a smack.
This time I compared the two the one from Ford and the other one and the one from Ford strokes farther. Now I have my full turning radius back I also noticed the stabilizer I got from Napa has way more resistance no wonder my steering was stiffer.
To sum it up some times its not worth buying aftermarket parts good thing I suspected the stabilizer before I started changing king pins and my steering box. I actually thought maybe it was my steering box that was starting to go.
It also makes me reconsider buying parts from napa I noticed on the stabilizer I bought from them was made in 1998 so that thing was sitting on a shelf for 7 years. Another thing the piston rod was starting to pit and rust must be high quality it says it was made in Mexico
i dont mean to sound like an azz but you dont need a stabilizer. i have pulled them off every truck i have owned and the driving feel is so much better. quicker turning response and doesn't work your p/s pump quite as hard.
if you have death wobble (the kind of wobble that makes you think your truck is going to fall apart until you slow down to a stop!) then you need to fix it and not cover it up. i have had to shim my kingpin springs to raise the pre-load on it. if it's ball joint then you may need new balljoints!
hey kenworth if you get death wobble check the track bar from your axle to the frame. i worked one a f-superduty awhile back that had the same thing and the bushings were worn out. didn't have alot of movement but enough. your suspension is pretty mcuh the same thing. i am guess you are 2wd. leaf sprung solid axle right?
Everything is tight even the track bar bushings which look not that old I changed the tires and the king pins are tight and the tie rod ends are all in good shape.
Its nice to have my turning radius back and the truck steers a little better now but I still have a sticky king pin.
