Im looking at headers for an 88 5.0 I was wondering sence the F150 body style is the same for the years 87-96, whats different between the headers for the 87-95 5.0 and the 96 5.0. Im not sure if it has to do with the motor. I've been looking at headers and Hedmon, Flowtech and Summit all make header that fit 87-96 and Pace Setter makes them for 87-95 and one for 96. i also noticed that the gasket is the same. SO whats the deal.
those headers are not good quality. there cheap and thats exactly what your getting. you will want to buy motor specific because the 5.8's egr comes out of the manifold vs the lower intake like the 5.0
some great brands of headers are Gibson,JBA, Edelbrock, BBK and Bassani
so your saying that the pace setter would be the best choice. another question i have is would an 96 header work on a 95 motor or an 88 for that matter whats the defferance there. I understand what you saud about the 5.8 but whats the difference in the 5.0 87-95 to 96?
a 96 may fit on a 95 motor. unless there is some different smog routing or hookup to make it different. i have not looked under the hood of a 96 to know.
I have 2 sets I'll deal with you if you're interested. 1 set is slightly used shorty Ford headers and the other is a DnyoMax long tube. Both for the 5.0. I'm putting a 351W in mine and the thing has all kinds of smog devices and I can't use them. PM me or email if you're interested.
well this is what a tech guy at pacesetter told me.
emissions changed in 96 , some places will group more of the years together and when you give them the info on your vehicle , there system enters the correct part # .
87-95 is the same header , and 96 is its own header .
First i need to decide whether or not i want to go with the shorties or the long tube. i dont know what the advantage's there is. HOw much do you have to have for them
kemicalburns if corect. Those headers are not the best. I bought a set of summit headers for an 89 5.0L and they were not the best at fit. The metal is not that thick and they have a definate "tinny"(sp) sound to them. I also had to get different ball sockets for the y-pipe because they would not line up. I just bought a set of Bassani and what a difference. These appear to be very well made. While they do cost more, you get what you pay for. The Bassani headers come with a very unique gasket, a stainless steel gasket with metal sandwhich insert around the holes. Never seen that before. Haven't got them on yet, but will let you know.
alright thanks for the input i'll look into them. my other question is i need to put complete exhausr on the truck should i buy a kit header back or should i take it to some one who could weld the exhuast on. who makes a good header back kit.
long tubes are for more torque but usually dont fit well if at all on our newer model rigs. shorties are the easiest and route the exhaust better in my opinion.
If you have the funds look into the bassani Y pipe. there are 2 options either offroad (not cats) or with Cats. this is a direct replacement of your Y pipe and goes 2.5" then after the cats is 3". then have an exhaust shop run 3" from there thru muffler of your choice out stock location keep the exhaust tucked up high so when your out wheeling it wont get damaged. great sound and great low end power.
