After a recent downpour, my '92 Aero extended leaked water into the interior. At the back the rear floor was a little wet to the touch, but there was no apparent leak - when you looked at the undercarriage, it was bone dry and above no water dripping or wetness at all.
The only sign of actual water dripping in was at the driver's door pillar - water ran down through the opening of the seat belt and the left 6x9 speaker was wet, as well as the ashtray, but the passenger sliding glass window was bone dry, and all gutters were fine and their holes seemed to not be plugged up.
Have you experienced this before? And, what's the best way to get rid of the mould smell? I've tried Nilodor but that just masks it. This weekend I intend to scrub the carpet down with Vinegar and Water and check all the drain holes in the rear door etc...any other suggestions?
Thanks very much all -- I just learnt how to search the site via Google, so I'll be fine now. Tried the built-in one, but forgot about the problems so I thought I'd ask.
Well, thanks to all who posted aiming me in the right direction...spent about 5 hours ripping apart the interior, and put silicone sealant on the left side of the van's windows (thankfully the moulding hides my messy job of it!)
I then attacked the carpet, getting rid of the mold and then shampooing and vacuuming it. What a job! But, the results are great - a like-new interior.
I'd recommend everyone check their van's windows out - turns out the rear leak only happened when there's a torrential downpour, and old mould was hiding at the bottom of the rear window from seepage in the past. My wife has allergies and she's always said there's something about the rear of the van that made her sneeze...now I know why.
