F250 & F150 Frames

I'm looking at buying a '78-'79 F250,(regular cab) and thinking of swapping all the F250 suspension to my '78 F150 Supercab, question is the 150 frame the same as the 250 or is the 250 somehow thicker or stronger, (both 2wd) Thanks! Rick

I am not sure about the late 70's models, but the in the late 80's I know that the F-250 frames are about .250" (1/4) thick and the F-150's are about .187" (3/16).

Just walked out and checked my '76 F250, and it's slightly thicker than my '77 F100, and is the same as '67-'72 F250 frames. Used a Vise-Grip to check so I can't give the exact gage. Expect the original rubber mounts to be trashed, and get a urethane kit. The cab mounting ears will swap if you have any that rusted out. Just grind or drill the rivets, replacing with fine thread Grade 8 bolts and locknuts. Check rear spring length,(IIRC there are two different lengths) as you may have to move rear spring perches too.

Hi, check the spring width too I know on the 80s trucks the 3/4 ton spring is wider than the 1/2 ton so the spring perches will have to be changed from the 3/4 to your 1/2 John
