Have a 66 SWB slick that I'm going to have repainted. Does anyone know where I could go to find the original paint schemes for this vehicle?
In addition to the color codes (it was blue, now red and who knows what in between) I'm particulalry concerned in finding pictures of the two tone variations that came from the factory.
People over the years have done all types of variations but I've only come across a couple originals from brochures from that period.
The 'correct' way to paint the two tone scheme on 65-66 is on my truck, shown here. The color combinations I've seen have always been with Wimbledon White, and include tan, blue, red, turquoise and pale yellow. Can't say for sure what all colors may have been available, or if all of them may have been in 2 tone.
thanks for the insight. The color scheme shown is the one I've seen and where I'm going with mine. Its completely red and I like the white offset as seen with yours. Didn't realize it ran the top of the bed rail as well, looks sharp
I agree that ddavidv's truck is an excellent specimen. I would add that the color scheme may also depend on the fact that a truck is a CC or if it is a 'cheaper' cab style. My basic F250 is caribbean turquiose with the wimbledon white just on the cab roof down and down the doors around the windows (I may have an old photo in the gallery). So Nighthawk, check out trucks that may match your cab style when doing the research. Good luck.
About that side molding...was that standard on the CC trucks? Mine is supposedly a CC (stainless around windshield, sweep speedo, CC script etc...), but I haven't found any trace of the molding. Was it just on the 2 tone trucks? I think mine was a single color that has a color code that I haven't been able to identify. Not trying to hijack the thread, I just saw the mention of the molding and thought I'd ask.
ddavidv shows one of the "correct" ways of two toning the '65-'66. I have an original paint '65 that is rangoon red with a colonial white top. The white covers the rear of the cab almost to the box. It stops at the cab bulge in the fuel tank area. the doors are entirely red. This combo is not as common as the example shown above but it looks very nice too. Steve
