I need some help with this problem on a 75 F250 2wd power steering. It is a friend's truck and I didn't take it apart so.....
There is a large spring pushing the gear shifter and the turn signal switch assembly up, as in off the steering column. What holds it down? There is a little cir-clip that looks like it might work, but when I install it, it appears there should be a washer or something under it.
Also when I get it all installed the steering wheel has a little over an inch gap between it and the turn signal switch assembly.
What is missing, wrong or whatever? Better yet does anyone have an exploded parts diagram of the steering column?

Sounds like somebody has been in there for sure. How does it look under the hood at the fire wall. There are only two column shaft lengths that I am aware of. One for power steering and one for none. If the truck has an auto tranny and non power steering, you can add the power gear and just replace the shaft. The shaft is the key as it has to be connected to the gear on one end and the wheel on the other. The column is just dressing. There should be some adjustment on the column where it bolts to the dash, does it need sliding upward?

Where is the Stockman?? I know that he can provide a exploded view for you, he has everything. ;-)

The truck has the original steering column and power steering setup. But I think it has been apart before and reassembled wrong. Apparently there was always a little gap there, this is according to the second and present owner.
The transmission selector indicator came off the steering column. I have never had an auto shift column apart before so I dont know how it goes together.
When I was "introduced to the truck" you had to pull up on the entire shift lever housing so you could shift into gear. There was a large space between the wheel and the turn signal switch assembly. The shifter and turn signal switch assmbly were free floating, as in nothing holding them to the steering shaft. I think that is what the cir-clip is for.
The bolts under the dash are at full travel in the sliders. I loosened them off but I couldnt pull the column up. I looked under the hood but I didnt see anywhere to loosen the column there. However it was raining and the truck isnt mobile so I couldnt bring it to my garage. So I admitt it was a quick look
Any ideas? I guess there must be a point under the hood to loosen off the column so I can move it up to meet the steering wheel properly. But I still think there must be more than that little cir-clip holding the shifter and turn signals on the column.
