Remote Starts
I have a 06 F-350 6.0 diesel. I have had a remote start on it for 2 months and for the last month i have had problems. It will run for 5 minutes and shut off if its cold out. It has a PTO option and i dont know if that is why it may be acting up, since the idle goes to 1100 after 5 minutes or so. Anyone have any answers?

Welcome to FTE. I believe the rev-up the engine is doing after 5 minutes is part of the PCM's EGR strategy and normal. If the remote start is using the tach monitor function and has over-rev protection turned on, then this is probably why the truck turns off when it revs up. The remote start thinks your truck is over-revving and shuts down to protect it. You would either need to take the truck back to whomever installed the system and ask them to relearn the tach signal with a higher rev limit, or if you have the installation manual, and feel comfortable, do it yourself.

When they first installed my remote start they connected the sense line to the Tach and every time I tried starting it, the engine would try 3 or 4 times. Sometimes it would start right up run then shutdown like yours.
The installer moved the sensing connection to the alternator and that cured the problem. Not sure exactly what they did, but your installer should know what to do.
