the way the TTB suspension works rack and pinion steering will not work. It would have huge bump steer. You can go full mustang II suspension and get rack and pinion with it. fatmanfab has the kit. its $$$ though.
I have converted an older car from a steering box set-up to rack and pinion and I am a believer. It turned it from a floater boat of a car to a precise easy to drive car. Plus they offer more room than a steering box set-up for things like headers.
A rack would sure be nice, but back in the day, the twin I beam was the toughest suspension a truck had seen. Mine would run the gravel roads like a champ! Worst problem with them is non-adjustable camber... No one seems to have the I beam 'bender' anymore.
I've always wondered how hard it would be to splice the steering and front suspension out of a 97+ F150/Expedition into one of these older trucks. . .or for the matter fabbing new brackets to accept the 80-96 2wd front end. Won't give you R&P, but atleast you get balljoints and fully adjustable suspension
