Gonna drop some $$$$$$
Gonna drop some $$$$$$
I have been saving my money (overtime, pop can money etc...) and this week I am going to buy my front disc brake kit for my 59.
Last year i priced all the big suppliers, Wadsons, MacGyvers, Old Car Center and Hot Rod & Classics. Horton Hot Rod shop in Mississauga, Paul Thorton has what appeared to be the best price and the easiest to talk to and the one most willing to spend the time with me on the telephone; so he will get my $900 hard earned bucks.
The kit i am buying will be the ECI kit, complete with adaptors, bearings and races, rotors, calipers, seals, hardware, master cylinder, master cylinder adapter kit, proportioning valve and finally residual valves. Shipping is included in this price. All I need to supply myself is the 2 brake flex hoses.
I have been driving with tight butt cheeks since i got this truck worrying about the single hyd brakes and not having a real good park brake.
I will keep everyone posted on how this turns out.

I always wondered what the cost would be for a disc conversion. It`s a big chunk of money but good braking is more important.
If I ever get my clipped 56 M100 the discs, coil springs and power steering will make it a great driver..
You are also changing the cab fairly soon?

No the cab is still sitting on one of my trailers. I think next fall i will start work on the cab......not sure which direction i am going to go with this yet. It needs some new metal and i am keen to do that it's just if i do up a nice cab then the rest of the truck will need to be done also. I am not seeing an end to this.

I will take progress pix of the front brake swap. My other plans this early spring is to remove a leaf or two from the front to lower it abit.
Also if i ever get off my lazy butt I have a new/cleaned and inspected 9 inch rear to replace. This will give me bigger back brakes also.

Is there a web site link to were your buying the disk conversion from. I have been looking at buying the tci ifs for my 56. All I can find are american retailers, but with the dollar high shipping is the only downfall right now.

Well the kit is E.C.I., coming from the U.S. but I am purchasing it from a Canadian company. He deals with the shipping. Plus i thought it all out and I don't think i was going to be any ahead buying straight from the U.S., shipping and exchange. This will be a heavy item and the company I buy from has a flat rate
That's one thing I like about the Old Car Centre they pay the shipping for the special order parts and when you make an order above $45! I haven't had to pay shipping yet. If it's a big item that has to go by truck and if it costs more than $250, shipping is free also.
