Question Tires and TTB Question

hey everyone,
I've got a 89 F-150 with a 6 inch superlift and 36x13.50 Iroks. I'm getting ready to get a new set of tires in the next couple months. I'm looking at the 37x14 Iroks, i know that i can clear them, i've researched them and the 37's are actually slightly shorter than my 36's. My question is do yall think the TTB is up to the 37's? I don't really wheel the truck hard, just some hunting trails, and some moderate mud. Also i want to change my radius arms from the stock ones with drop brakets, to extended ones. I'd like to get skyjacker ones but will they work with my superlift kit?, or should I buy the superlift ones? Any thoughts are much appreciated because I do my projects on a budget and want them done the best way possible for the money.
Thanks,
-Jeremy-

I believe any extended radius arm should work with any TTB lift. The mounts are the same pretty much.

With all this money and the size of tire you're running, you're gettin to the end of half-ton survivability. A 3/4 ton 8-lug D44 would be a fair upgrade as long as you take it easy like you said. You're getting close to Dana 60 territory though. Have you thought about SAS'ing it? Extended radius arms are expensive, hate to see you spend the money on them and then switch later when you outgrow your truck?

That IS alot of tire for a Dana 44. Wide and heavy.

i've thought about a SAS but its too much money right now. Maybe in the future but it won't be for a year or more.

Dude thats alotta tire for a TTB Dana44. I felt alright running 38.5 swampers on my bronco with a dana44, however when I put 38.5s on my pickup with TTB, that was pushing it. It puts alotta stress on the frame and joints. Because of the stress I'm running 33" tires again on my daily driver

hey everyone,
i'm also considering a set of 35x14.50 SSR's and new 15x12 aluminum wheel instead of my 15X10 steel wheels. any thoughts?

bigsexy63, you should be able to fit 35x14.50s on a 15x10 rim as long as you don't air down your tires alot.
Yes 36" tires are just about maxing out the TTB suspension, but as long as you take it easy, you should be ok, but will go throught ball and rag joints faster.
The 36x13.50 Irocs are actually 36.8" tall, and the 37x14 Irocs are 36.5" tall.

MBBFord,
After researching the 37x14 Iroks I noticed too that they are shorter than the 36's, since i already have the 36's on my truck i don't think the 37's would make much of a difference, the only real difference is the width and that i'd be running them on 15x12's. i think with a dual steering stabilizer and a good alighnement they should be fine.

They only suggest them to be run on 15x11 rims, but if you didn't air down, your 15x10s would be fine.

I've heard from a few shops, that as a general rule, a 1/2 ton pickup can handle up to about 35" tires, and after that you will want to upgrade axles, steering, and all that fun stuff. I would think that's a little too much tire for it.

My solid axle D44 can handle 37s, and after that, your pushing it.
A stock TTB D44 is usally MAXED out with 36s, but it's safer with 35s.

MBBFord,
What kind of wheeling do you do? i've noticed a lot of 1/2 ton pickups with 38's and are doing fine, also a friend of mine is running 38's on a 88 toyota and he hasn't had a problem, i would think that if his yota can can 38's i shouldn't have a problem with 37's. especially since the 37's i'm looking at arn't true 37's but 36.5's

as long as you aren't gonna pound it on too hard the TTB will hold up fine. i have seen 44s on a D50TTB and as long as all the bushings are kept up you'll be fine

but dont go crying when you start having to replace parts and your tires wear out fast on the outside/inside of the tire

fishmanndotcom,
yea i think that my TTB should hold up fine i'm not hard on it and i've just changed all the bushings, ball joints, and wheel bearings, i'm used to the tires wearing out fast b/c its hard for a lifted TTB to not do that.
