nothing beats the Optima i have a red top. other batteries are good i have had em all. but the ptima has a no fee free return for 2 years. and you can turn over an engine for an hour in the coldest tempatures. it can be mounted side ways its light beacuse its a gel cell. they are exspensive around 110-120 but i am hooking up two to my truck even though one is plenty. but my other battery cradele looks lonely.
Optima red top here too . . . 2 of them. They last forever, crank forever and don't seem to lose power in extreme cold like a lot of regular batteries do.
i pretty much buy based on warranty.all the batteries out there are made by one of the 3 remaining makers in the U.S. . the biggest is JCP who makes 71% of all automotive batteries on the market. they also make optima.
I tend to buy the cheapest battery I can find that the clamp will hold down. They all die too soon. On the other hand, when it gets really really cold here, it is rarely at freezing temperatures. If I was back in Nebraska, I would invest in a better electrical starting lump.
I have been using the optima for about 2 years in my 77f-350 one in the truck and one in the welder. Never a problem out of either.
I also broke down and got one for my maverick and after 6 months of sitting it cranks and cranks and cranks some more.
Can not say one bad thing about them.
They are a little pricey but you get what you pay for I guess..
Optima Red top, and then anything but Walmart! WM batteries are like crack, hooked on 'em cheap and then you can't get away because you will forever being catching a cab back to the store for a warranty replacement.
