I have a '91 Explorer I recently picked up. Never thought I'd be a Ford man, but hell...here I am! The exterior's immaculate and the interior, all red! I detailed cars for a living a while back, so you can imagine how it's kept up. I'm just looking for tips from you guys...
-interior mods
-websites for aftermarket parts
-good sites for viewing other Expo's round this year
-how-to's on motor repair and maintenance
really I'm just looking for ideas to push me in a nice direction for lifts, interior mods...gotta tell you, got the truck with a broken windshield. I had that replaced first thing and had the rearview plate removed and added a 6" visor. Looks sic as hell!
Anything helps guys, glad to be part of this site!
Rob
Cool Glad you like the truck. Here are some links. I sugest you read all the stuff on the draco web site. There are so many tips/tricks there for these early Explorers...even Ford didn't know about these things. http://draco.acs.uci.edu/explorer/
Then, depending on your experience, here's a link to how Ford fuel injection and EEC-IV computers work. http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/
When you're first getting this up to tip top operating condition...sure the basic tune up with plugs/wire, PCV, air filter...but don't forget to clean the MAF sensor - a common issue that result in lean condition and heavy pinging under load.
If you plan on keeping this truck, you may want to look around on eBay for a spare PCM, computer. Seems like these early ones are now starting to fail...as reported in different threads here.
