I think my 96 4WD F150 could benefit from new front shocks.
I'm not planning on doing any offroad, and I'm not a performance junkie...just looking for a decent quality replacement shock at a reasonable price.
any recommendations?
and is this an easy DIY project?
If the front end is bouncy then a set of shocks will transform it. Have a look thru the list of sponsors here and you should find some that list shocks. It should be an easy job to do yourself. Only a jack and a few wrenches needed.
and I replaced the whole set with Monroes, I think. I installed the air adjustable on the rear. They have worked just fine. There is two on each side in front, you know........chris3
I've had good luck with KYB's. I bought my 88 F250 used in 1995 with KYB's already on the truck. I had them replaced a few months ago at Sears. They were on sale and Sears was offering free installation. I bought the Gas Adjust and I think they came with a lifetime warranty. I helped install a set of KYB's on a truck about 15 years ago and it was a little tricky because they came compressed and required us to release the tension with a string that comes with the shock. It wasn't difficult but it wasn't as easy as some other brands. Good Luck.
truck has 88K miles.
another thing...it's a 4 x 4, with manual locking hubs...it seems to only have one shock per side on the front...I thought there was supposed to be 2 per side???
