Rearend Fluid Change

Hey All, I know this has been asked before and yes I have attempted search with no helpful threads. All I'm asking is for a good thread or a decent write-up for a guide. I have a '63 F100 w/ 9" rearend I need to change the fluid on, BUT I'm unable to pull it apart at this time. I've heard about drill/tap plugs to the bottom of pumpkin or using fluid suction method. If you can provide some good info, I'd be glad to hear from ya. Thanks for your time.

However you choose to change it, drive it for a while and warm the rearend up before you change it as it will make you task easier to get the thick dirty lube out of it.

What I do is, remove the driveshaft from the third member, and remove the tires, brake drums, and axle shafts on both side of the axle. Then remove the nuts and brass washer holding the third member. Then punch in the bolts either with a flat punch, or using the nuts on the bolts and using a 9/16" socket to punch in the bolt (then remove the nut), and using a punch to punch the bolts. Use a drain pan when you punch the lower bolts in. Then using a tow small chiesel between the third member and axle housing to separate the third member.
