In my opinion, the only way a 80's bed can look good on an earlier truck is if its a Flareside/stepside. The 67-72 beds look better than an 80's bed on a 73-79, but they leave a gap between the cab and the front of the bed. I think the 67-72's have a 131" wheelbase instead of the 73-79's 133".
73-79 trucks had many WB options , so many its almost confusing. the 67-72 is a better swap. i have seen 110'' , 130'',133'', 139'' and a 172'' . mine is a 139''
I'm refering to a regular cab longbed. The 67-72 is just a tad shorter, with the rear axle closer to the cab. I think the 80's regular cab longbeds are 133" like the 73-79, I know the wheel well will line up better.
I couldn't post an attachment but in my gallery, the last photo shows a black mud truck with an '80's style box. Like "gashog" said, UGLY. Then again, it's just a mud truck.
ok, thanks i figured it would be ugle but i had never seen one with a later model bed and figured i would ask seems thats what is most avaliable to me. Thanks,
steve
Yes very ugly. My highboy had the 80's box when I bought it. It was the first thing I took off when I got it.
My Avatar has it on and a couple of pictures in my gallery.
4 of the 6 holes from th 80-94 boxes will align with the 73-79. guys around me grind the spot welds holding the 80's style sides and replace with an aftermarket 73-79 body style. look really good. also they typically weld angle iron to the inside of the frame rail and drill a hole to catch the other two bolts virtually undetectable.
